Healthcare Not Warfare-War Hurts!

May 21st, 2008

Busy, busy, busy!  I have been going from Barstow to Santa Clarita and points inbetween- meeting lots of new faces and great Democrats!Well, I had the privilege to speak at a Mothers Day event put on by Santa Claritas Domestic Violence Center.  I spoke a little about PTSD….Post Traumatic Stress Disorder-(go to Wikapedia or to a Veterans Website,  and look up PTSD and find out just how MUCH the War in IRAQ costs our troops and their families - it’s costing more than  just money.)

Enough of just the $$dollars- look at the costs to our servicemen and their families-the stress and burden is causing PTSD!!!  WAR HURTS!

McKeon supported Bush going into Iraq because of the weapons of mass destruction! We’re still there years later and no Iraqii weapons of mass destruction!  And what about Bin Laden!- we never got that guy and we’re still in Afganistan!  Wow!

Oh-Just to talk about it, let’s mention the OIL game!!  Now it’s $130.00 a barrel! Hey, I am sick of the HIGH GAS /FUEL PRICES!!  Aren’t YOU??

These higher  gas/fuel prices have an affect on everything we need in our everyday lives!

Working families, retirees, disabled adults are suffering financially!   AND - let’s not forget that our military personnel and their families are suffering  with PTSD and most of our reservists, who left good paying jobs to respond to Bush’s call and get military pay, face loss of their homes and vehicles when they come back from combat duty.

Washington needs to  stop spending money on McKeon’s WAR-  let’s remember the costs to our families mental and physical health and what about the using of  tax dollars on private military and not taking care of  what our soldiers need  - while they are STILL engaged  in WAR!! HEY-what about that huge-USA Embassy in Iraq  - it’s as big or bigger than Vatican City!  That  new USA Embassy cost us- (our tax dollars at work) -  736 million dollars!!   WOW -that’s ridiculous!! What is wrong with Buck McKeon and his cronies on the armed service committee? Let’s CHANGE the way Washington does things- vote in people who care about the people’s needs first-not the corporations, lobbiest, special interests, all who put money in their campaign accounts!

We need HEALTHCARE- NOT WARFARE!!    Let’s take care of everyone’s mental, physical.and emotional needs!! - and don’t forget that they will be able to  work and care for their families and be better citizens in our society! Food banks are having problems keeping up with the demand- go to CNN and look it up!  We have many problems coming our way everyday in life and one of them includes food shortages.  To look up some information for yourselves there are lots of videos and news organizations on the internet with that information.

I am wondering,  why in the world  do people want to hear over and over again, the same messages in life?  We keep telling Washington over and over again -and why don’t they respond ?

” We need HEALTHCARE NOT WARFARE-WAR HURTS!”

” We need healthcare so we are able  to take care of ourselves and our own families”

”We need to be healthy so we can work at a good paying jobs.”

Listen everyone knows :”If  someone is sick they need healing, if someone is hungery they need food,  if someone is in need of clothes, then clothe them,  if someone needs shelter then give them shelter” , oh how about this one: love your neightbor as your self - if  your neighbor is some one who asks for bread do you  give you a stone?”-

What’s has happened in our society is this: Some of the  people are too worried about themselves and not others….especially the wealthier group/rich and the Corporations- they  just don’t worry about those same things you  and I do.   They have the money to go to the gas pump, to buy groceries at the local store (or drive to another town),  and to purchase clothes for themselves and their children .  They can go to the doctor and get their  prescriptions/medications!  Why -because they have enough money to do these things and they have healthcare!

Your Vote Counts-and when you elect someone they better be a reachable person who wants to listen and serve the people in their communities, and have the people’s interest first (not their campaign donors interests or their own pocketbook)

You are the taxpayers-YOU are paying for their seat in that  office they are elected to!

If you need to talk or speak about something that concerns you, then you should be able to write them and go to their offices, go to the public meetings and they or someone from their staff  should be there!Go  and tell them we need healthcare, not warfare, good paying jobs,  cut gas prices,  food/grocery prices, clothing prices and  housing prices.

We need farm incentives to grow crops/food -  not destroy food/crops!

We need more green energy and new technologies that promote clean fuels, clean water, and clean air!!!

Let’s work together to find the solutions!!

Dental Care Goes Beyond Toothpaste!

April 17th, 2008

Just the other day when I was speaking to some local seniors , one of them spoke up  about the lack of coverage under MediCare and private insurance for FALSE TEETH!  How can we allow that!  The government pays for prosthetic limbs but not teeth. Can you believe that? How can a person take care of themselves if they can’t chew the food and break it down and how can seniors avail themselves of nutrition programs at senior centers without teeth? How strange it is to think such a thing is not taken care of?

Also I can’t believe the republicans put through the prescription coverage plan without giving the government the power to negotiate the cost of drugs downward!  Without the prices negotiates to at least cash prices that uninsured people can sometimes get from pharmacies, the MediCare drug benefit gets wiped out long before the end of the year.

So much for the republican rhetoric about the “free market”–I guess the free market doesn’t apply to the drug companies when they want to gouge us!

Well one of the problems we face in this country is the lack of health care -for millions of Americans.  For some, the care is denied by use of pre-existing condition exclusions, the care requested is experimental or not in the standard of care options their non-doctors will accept (so the requested care is unreasonable and unnecessary), the charges are excessive if they somehow authorize the care–to name a few.

Today I saw the Prime Minister of England talk with Bush in the Rose Garden. While Bush was admitting our economy was having some trouble, the British Prime Minister was talking about a tax reduction despite universal government paid-for health, dental and vision care–all of which our country does not have. We really have got to get this right and not let McCain and McKeon talk about the free market and make the ridiculous argument that a tax cut or credit would be enough for medical care, assuming the people with pre-extising problems and who have been uninsured for so long, can find an insurer that will cover them.

There are European countries that have great medical care for the entire country and we are in America - the greatest country on  this world and why don’t….. What do you have to say about all this??

Its not the talk of being compassionate that defines us–its the action of the nation’s leaders.

Its not the amount of aide we give to Darfur, Ethiopia and to the aids epidemic that makes us compassionate. Taking care of others and letting our own people suffer is hypocritical. Taking care of all citizen’s health care needs will be the only real evidence of America’s compassion.
